Happy & Healthy 2015 Dynamics GP

Everywhere you look this time of year there are tips and ideas on ways to start the New Year off right.  Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a continuous improvement freak.  So I’m a sucker for all the tips and tricks.  Who doesn't want to squeeze more out of their day and find ways to do more with less?

We need to set those stretch goals, let go of what’s not important, get moving, try something new, and so on.  BUT, what about Microsoft Dynamics GP?  What about your internal processes?  Here are a few of my random tidbits to help get kick 2015 off right.

What’s New in 2015! GP2015 is what’s new.  This release includes new features and improvements to workflows, single sign on, service based architecture and much more.  If you haven’t seen what’s coming, GPUG (GPUG.com ) has been offering their GP 2015 Series: What’s New in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 (Part 1 and 2).  You can also find a lot of information out on the Microsoft Dynamics GP Community blogs as well.

Process and systems audit – Now is the perfect time to take a look at your processes and systems. Bad habits are hard to break and even harder if we are unaware of them.  Take time to analyze your current processes and systems.  Are you going through the motions because this is the way we have always done it. Through this process, ask yourself and the front-line folks:

  1. What can we change or do differently?
  2. What can we stop doing or let go of?

CHALLENGE - I would also challenge you to have someone from a completely different department either sit in on the analysis or review your findings.  Ask them for their insight too.

What to add – 3rd party products out in the market that offer huge time savings. I hate to brag, but if you are looking for ways to improve efficiency we have a few tools for you.

  1. SmartFill – Tell me, who doesn’t want to find information up to 83% faster?
  2. Auditor I can’t remember what happened yesterday, how I’m I going to remember what, why, and when data changes occurred in my system. I can’t, which is why Auditor will do it for me.
  3. Dynamics GP Toolbox Over 20 helpful tools wrapped up in one, need I say more?
  4. Dynamics Report Manager - Manage all my reports from one central spot, add automation to my report process, it’s a no brainer.
  5. Omni Price – With the flexibility to manage nearly every pricing situation you can think of, and then some. How can you go wrong?

If you are in need of a solution, and we don’t have what you are looking for, check out ISV Central (www.isv-central.com )or leverage the GPUG community?

In closing, I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes, ‘Find a better way everyday”- Jack Welch GE CEO.  For me, this pretty much sums it up.  Take the time to pause and reflect on your process and system and then find a better way.

Here’s to wishing you all a productive, happy and healthy New Year!
