I remember the jingle from the unfortunately now-defunct Toys R’ Us commercial I grew up with:
“I don’t wanna grow up, ‘cause baby if I did, I couldn’t be a Toys R Us kid.”
This advertising staple captured the heart of what being a kid was all about: lots of play, lots of laughter, and endless fun.
Starting a business has many of the same elements captured in that jingle. There’s excitement in the naivety of playing with your business idea and bringing it to life: building a product or service, landing customers, and getting paid to do what you love. But growing up is inevitable. Childhood eventually comes to a close and moving to adolescence is sometimes not as fun.
Growing Pains
The pains of growing up are very similar to those associated with a growing business. When you outgrow your manual spreadsheets or a startup-phase accounting system like QuickBooks, you start noticing that keeping up with payables can be worse than having acne. Sometimes, customer relationships are worse than a first date, and reconciling bank accounts is right up there with B.O. – it stinks.
Growing into a mature adult requires overcoming the pains of being a teenager and acknowledging that we truly don’t know everything. One of the best ways to do that is with a modern ERP like Acumatica. I like to think of Acumatica as the compassionate uncle or the wise grandma that loves you no matter what. They make your transition into adulthood less painful by providing just the right tools you need to cope.
With that in mind, it might be time to consider a modern ERP system.
QuickBooks Enterprise vs. Acumatica
In order to truly be prepared for the next stage of business (and life), you need to be able to think ahead. QuickBooks can deliver hindsight, but Acumatica is able to deliver the insight and foresight that QuickBooks can’t. Acumatica is a full-scale ERP and CRM solution that can manage complex, multi-entity accounting, in addition to other essential business needs.
Shared Data. Acumatica enables easy export and integration of your data vs. a proprietary database that requires a third-party utility to export from QuickBooks. It shouldn’t be so hard to share your data.
True Integration. Acumatica’s open APIs and built-in modules and functionality allow true integrations vs. having to map, import, export or sync multiple data sources and apps in and out of QuickBooks.
Easy Customization. Acumatica shares its APIs to build custom functionality and apps vs. QuickBooks limitations on customizations (which often lead to bigger problems down the road).
Unlimited Users. Acumatica gives you unlimited users for the same monthly price vs. a limited number of users with QuickBooks. Now you can empower employees to collaborate like never before.
Better Control. Acumatica is GAAP compliant and includes several features for compliance, security and audit trails vs. the ability to change just about anything on the fly in QuickBooks.
Entering the Next Phase
Moving to a new ERP isn’t always a walk in the park. But it’s a lot easier when you have someone to help you through that awkward stage and Rockton Connect is here for you - zits and all. We’ll help you make that transition in the most affordable and lasting way.
So, before jumping in, let Rockton Connect help you understand both your business strategy and your cloud strategy. Working with growing businesses for more than 20 years has taught us a thing or two about what companies want from an ERP solution. We’re helping businesses thrive by connecting people, processes, and priorities.
And for those of you that’ll be trying to get that jingle out of your head for the rest of the day - you’re welcome!
Agreed! Childhood days are the best days of one’s life, and one can never outgrow childhood memories. But the same cannot be said about the accounting systems. As the business grows, accounting software needs upgrade too. And with ever-developing accounting solutions, businesses need to adopt new technologies to stand out in the competition. Apart from QuickBooks and Acumatica, I would like to add Sage 500 to this list.
We are currently using Sage 500 on a private server for some of our clients to manage payroll, automate business processes, and manage inventory. So far, it seems a good solution for our client’s ERP requirements.
