The April 2nd release of new functionality for Microsoft Dynamics 365 marks a seismic shift within the Dynamics ecosystem. With this update, Microsoft aims to improve functionality in both customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools.
What's changed?
Firstly, the naming! What is now known as Dynamics 365 Business Central has been re-branded multiple times since its initial launch. Originally named Navision in the 1990's, it was re-branded to Dynamics NAV in 2006. The platform further evolved into Dynamics 365 for Financials and then into Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Business Edition. Settling on Dynamics 365 Business Central, this name should have staying power.
By Fall of 2018, what is known today as on-premise Dynamics NAV will also assume the Business Central moniker. Going forward there will be just one streamlined offering Dynamics 365 Business Central, with two deployment flavors: on-premise or pure cloud.
According to Microsoft, “Business Central offers SMEs a single, end-to-end solution for managing multiple departments, as well as an opportunity to easily upgrade from basic accounting software and/or legacy ERP systems.”
Microsoft plans to do this by offering an integrated product line with as much customer choice as possible. As your organization’s needs are continually evolving, Dynamics 365 allows you to add functionality as you grow with a rich toolkit of native business applications and third-party solutions.
New Native Applications for Dynamics 365 include:
Dynamics 365 for Marketing Professional Edition - Designed for companies that are ready to go beyond basic email management, this new marketing automation app offers you the ability to do campaign management, journey mapping, study lead flow management etc.
Dynamics 365 for Sales Professional Edition - A new simplified version of the core sales application, this app is designed to optimize sales processes by giving your sales team access to more intelligence and analytics, offering deeper integrations with LinkedIn, providing a consistent user experience for web, mobile and much more.
Dynamics 365 for Customer Service - An intuitive application for knowledge management with features like interactive dashboards so users can review their workload and resolve issues quickly, offer a timeline view of customer interactions etc.
Power BI Intelligence Initiatives
The new platform also offers Microsoft Power BI Insights apps, designed to help business extract useful insights from the data they already collect. Power BI delivers insights tailored to different business scenarios across departments and data sources allowing businesses to see a 360-degree real time view of their data.
Power BI for Sales Insights and Power BI for Service Insights are a pair of new tools that will be available in preview this spring. With Power BI for Sales Insights, businesses can extend the capabilities of Dynamics 365 for sales and track sales performance, use predictive lead scoring, track key KPIs like lead conversion rates and more.
The Power BI for Service Insights app provides detailed analytics for several scenarios, such as customer service, field service etc.
