Is NetSuite Really Better Than Microsoft Dynamics GP?

Microsoft DynamicsGP  vs NetSuite

When researching ERP solutions, you'll find no shortage of articles and blogs that favor NetSuite over Microsoft DynamicsGP. The problem with these resources is that they're outdated. Older materials on the subject point out that NetSuite is cloud-based, whereas Dynamics GP is strictly an on-premises solution. With the introduction of Microsoft Azure Cloud Services, that's no longer the case. In fact, Dynamics GP now has three deployment options: on-premises, cloud, or a hybrid of the two. It's also possible to change the deployment option as your business needs change. This is just one of the many advantages that Dynamics GP has over NetSuite.

Another outdated claim regarding the alleged superiority of NetSuite is that it supports mobile devices, and Dynamics GP works only on desktops and laptops. Again, this isn't true anymore. If you choose to host your Dynamics GP implementation on Azure, you'll be able to access your application from any computer or mobile device with web browsing capability.

NetSuite advocates also boast that it's an all-in-one solution that handles everything from accounting to CRM to e-commerce. Depending on the circumstances, one could view this as an advantage or a liability. What happens when there's a service outage? Your whole business shuts down, and you lose time and money. What happens when you want to migrate your financials to another platform? You can't (not easily, anyway). Because the NetSuite cloud essentially owns your business data, moving it elsewhere is a tedious, difficult task that may require purchasing an expensive, third-party tool to get the job done.

Furthermore, the convenience of having all of your systems running on one platform comes at the expense of flexibility.  With Dynamics GP, you can design your deployment so that you retain control of your data and use the cloud only to run the software itself. You can also pick and choose which software vendors best meet your needs, as opposed to relying on one company that may or may not be able to accommodate situations that are unique to your business.

In addition to offering flexibility in data storage and retrieval options, Dynamics GP gives you the ability to integrate GP with other products in the Microsoft ecosystem that are designed to work synergistically. The "look and feel" of Microsoft Dynamics products is similar to that of Outlook, so it's much easier to train employees on how to use these programs than it is to train them on using NetSuite.

It's impossible to cover every differentiating feature of Microsoft Dynamics GP vs. NetSuite in a blog post, but we hope that we've given you a few things to think about.
