Two Crucial Elements of a Successful Microsoft Dynamics GP Implementation

Having performed hundreds of Microsoft Dynamics GP implementations over the years, we have addressed many questions from clients before, during and after the engagement process. Many wonder if their way is the best way to deploy Dynamics GP while others ask what the recipe is to make sure the implementation is successful.

One lesson we have learned is that there CAN be more than one good way to implement your Dynamics GP system. Having said that, we believe there are a few foundational elements that are critical in making sure your implementation goes off without a hitch.

Own the Project

Take ownership of Dynamics GP and the deployment project. Be accountable for the overall success of the implementation by carefully choosing and directing the project team. Make sure all team members understand their roles and their expectations of you regarding the project. Be the “project champion” by learning all the product modules and not just the ones you think you will use the most. Take advantage of best practices rather than trying to make too many customizations to the system.

Lean on Your Partner

When you select your Dynamics GP partner, you should choose them because you trust that they will be a partner in your success, not just another vendor. Building a strong working relationship is worth its weight in gold and fosters trust among both parties. Also, make sure your partner develops a plan that goes well beyond your “go live” date. The system and relationship don’t just stop once you go live so make sure you know what the next steps are, including training, future upgrades and support services.

Although there are many critical aspects of implementing your Dynamics GP system successfully, the information provided above provides a solid basis for moving forward. As with any project, communication, both internally and externally, is key and can make the entire deployment go much smoother.
