Evaluating Cloud ERP: Top 3 Acumatica Questions

Email | Print

Acumatica is the fastest growing Cloud ERP software on the market. They recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary and surpassed 4,000 customers. Aside from these major milestones, they continue to innovate rapidly and to create immense value for small and midsized businesses across multiple industries.

As we engage and work with more companies interested in diving deeper into Acumatica’s industry-leading platform, there are a few questions that typically come up. In light of that, I thought I’d take this opportunity to compile these into a blog post. Hopefully, this helps others that are considering Acumatica in their ERP software search.

Here are the 3 FAQ’s we regularly receive about Acumatica Cloud ERP:

Who is Acumatica?

Founded in 2008 by veterans of the ERP industry, Acumatica offers a full suite of integrated business management applications, including Financials, Distribution, Manufacturing, Project Accounting, eCommerce, Field Service, and CRM. Because it’s a 100% browser-based, it can be accessed from anywhere, on any device and on any operating system. It offers the most flexible licensing and deployment model of any ERP software available, placing the power of choice in the hands of the customer. Lastly, Acumatica invests heavily in developing and innovating their product. The majority of Acumatica employees are developers tasked with continually enhancing the system to better serve customers. The major investments in both people and technology set Acumatica apart from most other ERP companies, that don’t commit resources on this scale.

In short, with over 4,000 customers and offices around the world, Acumatica has firmly established itself as a top choice for small and midsized businesses looking for a flexible and robust business management system.

How is Acumatica Priced?

There are a couple unique things about how Acumatica is priced.

  1. Acumatica can be licensed via an annual subscription or an outright purchase. With a subscription license, you can choose to deploy the software in a true SaaS environment or with a Hosting provider of your choosing. If you choose to purchase the software it can be deployed on-premises or with a Hosting provider. Very few ERP systems offer multiple options to customers.
  2. Acumatica does not charge by the number users. This is the one that really throws people off, but also gets them excited! Instead of charging by the number of “seats” using the software, Acumatica uses a consumption-based model, meaning that pricing is configured based on the amount of processing speed your company needs to effectively run the business. The different levels of processing speed offered are called Resource Levels. The optimal Resource Level is based on the amount of load being placed on the system during peak times. This can be calculated by tallying the number of end-to-end transactions at peak business times and the number of concurrent users logged into the system performing those tasks.

In short, you can continually add users to the system but you might eventually put enough strain on the system that your processing speed could slow down. When that happens you can quickly upgrade to a larger-sized Resource Level. The Resource Levels can be sized anywhere from Small to XXXLarge so there is always a right fit. Other ERP systems charge thousands of dollars every time a new user is added, which can add up quickly and hinder a company as it is in growth mode. Acumatica’s model is a refreshing change to the traditional pricing model.

Is Acumatica secure?

Acumatica’s intrusion detection system (IDS) detects any attempt to compromise the confidentiality, integrity or availability of your data, or to circumvent security controls. In the event of such an attempt, the intruder is locked out of the system, and an investigation is conducted to identify and apprehend the intruder. Acumatica can also restrict user logins to specific IP addresses.

In addition, with Acumatica, each user can be assigned unique security credentials. These credentials can be role-based or highly specific to individual users. Since Acumatica allows unlimited users at no additional cost, each individual’s login is unique and activities can be tracked.
